Thundercloud Project

The role of security lights and street lights in cities is to provide safety and peace of mind to residents by making roads easier to pass through and preventing crime. However, as the life of the fluorescent tube nears, the phenomenon of the fluorescent tube flashing suddenly causes great anxiety and discomfort to the viewer. Why does flashing make us feel more uneasy than turning off the lights? Is it because it gives the impression of insecurity due to poor management, because it reminds us of death at the end of life, or because we are afraid of “anomaly”? Although the use of LEDs has been progressing in recent years, there are still many old types of fluorescent tubes, and some of them are often left flashing.
The Thundercloud Project is an art project that looks for blinking security lights and turns them into thunderclouds. It changes the death of an inorganic security light into a thundercloud with vivid light and a feeling of life. By converting the image 180 degrees and making it blink as it should be, the anxiety and discomfort are removed. Furthermore, I would like people to feel that everyday life can be changed into another world with just a little ingenuity by seeing thunderclouds on a night road and thinking freely about the fun and folly.
